Welcome to the Southport Lions Club

Southport, NC is a small fishing village located on the Cape Fear River in Southeastern North Carolina. We are the Southport, NC Lions Club and welcome you to our website. This website provides information on all that we do for Southport and the surrounding communities in Brunswick County, NC. We also offer suggestions on how you can help us fulfill our mission and how we might be able to help you and/or your organization!

In keeping with the tradition and history of the International Lions Organization Southport Lions Club’s focus is on Eyesight Assistance. While we are involved in many other activities to assist our Community, there are three important Eyesight Assistance projects that we want to highlight immediately. They are our:

Mobile Vision Screening

Eyeglasses Recycling Service

Individual Vision Assistance Program

Historical Southport Christmas Ornaments
Now at Reduced Prices

A Collection of Special Christmas Ornaments which began in 2002, featured a different historic point of interest in the City of Southport, NC each year. The ornaments are solid pewter and produced by the Woodbury Pewter Company in Woodbury Connecticut. The centerpiece of each ornament is from the original sketches done by the late Donald (Don) K. Johnson, a local artist, for the Southport Self-Guided Walking Tour, available at the Southport Visitors Center.

THIS IS WHAT WE DO

253 million people are blind or have moderate to severe distance vision impairment (MSVI)

1.1 billion have near-vision impairment simply because they don’t have a pair of glasses

More than75% of all blindness and MSVI is avoidable

89% of people with visual impairment live in developing countries

Source: Lions Club International

Lions Clubs around the world collect used glasses and send them to a Recycling Center for processing

There, the glasses are sorted to determine those that are usable or unusable, processed, and placed in inventory for distribution to optical missions around the world

Lions help to minimize landfill waste by supporting precious metal reclamation and scrap processing for damaged glasses that are unusable
